Ram Truck will increase production of its Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup truck to 20 percent of all all half-ton pickups produced starting in November, the Chrysler Group unit announced.

The news comes on the heels of a separate but related announcement that the Ram Truck brand is increasing production of its Ram 1500 pickup by 28,565 units per year at its Warren, Mich., plant, which is one of two plants that produce the Ram 1500.

The increase in Ram 1500 EcoDiesel production suggests strong demand for a vehicle that became the first half-ton pickup to offer a diesel engine when it went on sale this summer. Ram Truck initially planned to produce enough Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks to make up an approximately 10-percent mix of total Ram 1500 production volume.

When it began taking orders earlier this year, Ram quickly filled up its initial production volume of 8,000 vehicles in three days.
