<p>The Volkswagen CrossBlue is a mid-size SUV concept with a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain.</p>

Volkswagen said it developed the vehicle specifically for the U.S. and Canadian markets, and that if it goes into production, it would fit between the Tiguan and Touareg in VW’s lineup.

Pike Research Says Battery Electric Vehicles Lowest TCO for Alt-fuel Vehicles

Assuming that the operator is able to claim the $7,500 federal tax credit, a Pike Research study on the total cost of ownership of alternative-fuel vehicles shows that 'mid-size hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric will have a lower TCO over a vehicle lifespan of 120,000 miles, but not at mileage levels that are well under that figure.'
