Toyota has introduced its eighth hybrid vehicle, the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid, at the New York International Auto Show and is positioning the new version of its compact SUV as an ideal combination of fuel efficiency and safety.

Toyota said the RAV4 Hybrid would be powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson Cycle and an electric motor. The vehicle should offer more than 176 hp. Toyota will offer its Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system, and will provide additional details closer to the vehicle's fall release.

Toyota is refreshing all RAV4 models for 2016 and will offer the gasoline model in four trim levels, including the LE, XLE, Limited, and new SE.

Other new features across the RAV4 line will include improved interior quality; options such as a 4.2-inch TFT informational screen in the gauge cluster and 7-inch touch screen in the dashboard; leather steering wheel; and revised cup holder to accommodate tall mugs with handles.

Toyota will offer its new TSS safety package on the RAV4 Limited trim.

Commercial fleets added 1,903 gasoline RAV4 SUVs in 2013.
