GM to Upgrade Volt to Protect Battery and Related Coolant System

<p>The structural enhancements more evenly distribute crash energy following a severe side impact, according to GM.</p>

WARREN, MI – GM stated it conducted four successful crash tests between Dec. 9 and 21 with these structural changes in place.

NHTSA Says Volt Still Safe After Investigating Battery Fire

DETROIT - NHTSA said it intends to continue to test the lithium-ion battery in the Chevrolet Volt but that based on the available data, the Volt is as safe as a gasoline-powered vehicle.
