NHTSA Opens New Safety Investigation Into Chevrolet Volt Battery Fires

WASHINGTON - NHTSA announced a formal investigation into post-crash battery fires in the Chevrolet Volt following testing in mid-November. On Monday, Nov. 28, General Motors issued a response to NHTSA’s announcement, saying that it is launching new customer satisfaction and safety initiatives related to this investigation.

NHTSA Says Volt Still Safe After Investigating Battery Fire

DETROIT - NHTSA said it intends to continue to test the lithium-ion battery in the Chevrolet Volt but that based on the available data, the Volt is as safe as a gasoline-powered vehicle.
