A ZoomSafer study posted on the company’s blog, showed that in an unnamed fleet that has a zero-tolerance policy on distracted driving for all 100 of its Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)-regulated construction vehicles, 62% of the company’s employees were distracted by their mobile devices at some point during the two-week audit period.

The audit found that there were 450 cell phone distractions per day, 111 distractions per hour and four distractions per mile driven.

The data came from Zoomsafer’s FleetSafer Vision software through an audit requested by the construction company.

With the FMCSA’s 2012 ruling that prevents commercial drivers from texting or talking on a hand-held device, check out an article from Business Fleet on how fleets are reacting and how they’re pushing drivers to stop this risky behavior.
