FCA US is recalling 65,760 2015-2016 model-year Ram 1500 pickup trucks so dealers can address an axle shaft issue that creates a risk of wheel separation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The recall, NHTSA said, affects trucks manufactured June 17- Sept. 28 of this year. The pickups may have been built with rear axles that were incorrectly heat-treated. As a result, the rear axle shafts could be at risk for fracturing that can lead to wheel separation.

Dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the axle assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Truck owners can reach Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403.

The FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) number for this recall is R59.
