GM: Buick Crossover Production Canceled
Just weeks after receiving negative reviews for the Buick crossover sports utility vehicle, General Motors Co. Vice Chairman Tom Stephens announced plans to stop production on the vehicles on Aug. 19, according to the Associated Press.
According to Stephens' FastLane blog, GM allowed 100 consumers to preview designs at a showcase of the company's future lineup. Consumers were then encouraged to share their thoughts on the vehicles through blogs and Twitter posts. As a result, the audience was not very receptive to the Buick crossover SUV.
Announced at the beginning of August, GM planned to release two versions of the vehicle, including on with a traditional combustion engine and one with a plug-in rechargeable system. The plug-in version was originally meant for the Saturn brand; however, GM is now selling it to Penske Automotive Group.
