General Motors and Nissan have signed an agreement where Nissan will build a small cargo vehicle that GM will sell in the U.S and Canada. GM plans to procure the vehicle from Nissan and distribute it through the company’s Chevrolet network of dealers. The vehicle will be based on the Nissan NV200 and will go on sale in the fall of 2014. The automakers said the vehicle will be called the Chevrolet City Express.

"Our fleet customers have asked us for an entry in the commercial small van segment, so this addition to the Chevrolet portfolio will strengthen our position with fleets and our commercial customers," said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet and Commercial Sales.

"Working with partners to expand markets for our innovative products enhances Nissan’s growth and manufacturing efficiency by leveraging our capacity to meet growing demand in this space," said Joe Castelli, Nissan vice president, commercial vehicles and fleet added.

Nissan added it currently sells a version of the vehicle as the NV200 in a number of markets around the world, including the U.S. and Canada.

How about one for GMC. Not everyone likes or wants a chevy!

Steve, Just run down to the GMC dealer and get a badge and slap it on. It looks like thats what Chev is doing with the Nissan.

nissan chevy......nissan gmc........its still a nissan.........well i hope you like nissan because that is what it is.

Don't the idiots that run GM realize that if we wanted a Nissan that's what we would buy?? Why buy one that says Chevy or GMC for that matter? They tried that with Toyota and Isuzu - see how that worked out.

I proudly sell Buicks & GMC Trucks at Jim Waldron Buick GMC in Davison, Michigan. Even my Yamaha golf cart has a GMC badge on it! I have never had any ambition to sell Nissans.

Kevin, a few ideas I have...

    1) a Bowtie on the front is good enough for some of the buy american crowd....See sales of Geo Prism compared to Chevrolet Prism. Same car, different badge, different sales. I dont want to say lots of people arent bright but......

    2) In a large fleet, you can get a better price the more you buy from a brand. Yes, its a nissan and it wouldnt make sense that XXX price point, but will at YYY.

Its a pants down ply for sure. GM has a long history of being late to the party....See Camaro (Both in the 60s and 2000s) HHR, The minivan, This thing........ At least when FOrd got together with Nissan for the Quest/Villager thing there was parts from both makes.....This is just a pry off the badge, put on ours and let er'rip! Buy American! :)

It looks like the original Chevy Lumina mini-van. Or a dust-buster handheld vacuum.

This just shows that Nissan can't sell their product so they need G.M's help. Most of the customers will realize it's a Nissan in disguise. Score one for the Blue Oval.

I am impressed with this van and greatly consider the use of it in a fleet group. If possible, will you send me a brochure of features and specs of it. Send to UPON THIS ROCK GROUP, dba - Reverend Ira L Lewis - 2009B Conestoga Trail - Austin, Texas 78744-3568 - 512 221-2610. Thank You.

The so called Blue Oval (Ford Motor Company) did the same thing a few years ago with the Mercury Villager van that was built on the Nissan Quest platform. This is not a new venture for any of the auto manufacturers.

I have one of these in the Nissan version and love it. You can get all the specs on the Nissan site.

well if they put a v8 or even the vortec v6 (which was lousy) in it, beef up suspension and larger wheels and tires , I would think about it and maybe buy one, otherwise why on earth would anybody buy it from Chevy we all know how the dealer ship service is, if anything at least the Nissan dealer service, the guy has a idea how to fix a problem

I will stick with my 2000 gmc safari for another 300 thousand miles ,before I cut off my nose to spite my face.

and lets see if they are smart enough to bring back the astro and safari (but now with this i dougt it)

its actually a joke if you ask me ,when I got my 2000 gmc safari brand new custom ordered with every option, cargo , had to bring it back to dealer 8 times for warranty repair, every time I did ,they had no idea what and how to fix problems and ended up with more problems every time they fixed the problem I went for and tied up the truck for days and days , when your small service business how many times could you tell your customer , truck is being fixed again be there next week ???

why would I rely on gm service anymore

especially if its not even there product.

maybe Nissan dealer service would be better ???
