Johnson Controls is expanding the production of advanced batteries for start-stop vehicles amid growing demand for better fuel economy.
The battery pack Johnson Controls is supplying XL Hybrids for its hybrid electric powertrains provides 1.8 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy storage, and is expected to be developed for light-duty vehicles used by fleets.
BOSTON – XL Hybrids, Inc., developer of a low-cost hybrid electric powertrain designed specifically for Class 1-3 commercial fleet use, signed a supply agreement with Johnson Controls, Inc.

DALLAS - AT&T has an all-electric Smith Newton cargo truck purchased last year operating in its commercial fleet in St. Louis, the company said. AT&T also is buying two of the first all-electric versions of the Ford Transit Connect van.
Many commercial fleets deferred fleet orders in 2009 and need to “play catch-up” with their replacement schedules for 2010 ordering. However, many fleets are delaying finalization of 2010 selectors due to market uncertainties.
