Congress Extends Alternative Fuel and Infrastructure Tax Credits - Industry News

Congress passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act on Jan. 1, 2013, which provided one-year extensions for several tax credits affecting alternative fuels. The tax credits are extended until Dec. 31, 2013, and are retroactive for all of 2012.

<p>The&nbsp;Transparent Cost Database provides average fuel economy and capital cost projections for vehicles with alternative-fuel or other types of powertrain technology.</p>

The site doesn't provide any vehicle-specific information, but rather provides information such as average vehicle fuel economy and capital cost estimates.

Pike Research Says Battery Electric Vehicles Lowest TCO for Alt-fuel Vehicles - Industry News

Assuming that the operator is able to claim the $7,500 federal tax credit, a Pike Research study on the total cost of ownership of alternative-fuel vehicles shows that 'mid-size hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric will have a lower TCO over a vehicle lifespan of 120,000 miles, but not at mileage levels that are well under that figure.'
