Mazda is recalling 27,149 B-Series pickup trucks in the 2004-2006 model years, as part of the expanded Takata air bag inflator recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

Dealers will replace the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. This recall is expected to get under way by the end of July.

“In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death,” NHTSA said.

Truck owners can reach Mazda at (800) 222-5500. This recall expands and partially supersedes a previous recall addressing the air bag inflators. Mazda’s number for the new recall campaign is 8315F.
