New software which will manage information flow into the vehicle and provide safety solutions to the driver while minimizing distraction has been introduced by Diversified Software Solutions, Inc.

The In-Vehicle Information System (IVIS) will allow automotive manufacturers the ability to manage how information is viewed and used in the car, according to company officials. The IVIS software, which has been in development for three years, is comparable to the cockpit of an advanced aircraft in that it deploys the workload away from the driver by managing critical or simple tasking.

The system allows all tasking to be done on a central display or on multiple displays in a graphic format designed for ease of use. The driver can choose to have minimal information in front of him but in the case of an emergency, IVIS alerts the driver and provides critical information. For example, the driver could have only his speedometer in front of him and in the event of tire-pressure loss the screen would provide an indication of loss in tire pressure.

IVIS would recognize this as a critical situation ahnd prioritize the information accordingly. IVIS allows mobile devices such as Palm Pilots and cell phones to be linked into the display, and can also be activated through voice, touch or mechanical recognition.
