A cell phone product designed to combine hands-free technology and radiation safety has been unveiled by TecnoZone International, headquartered in New York. The new product was unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. The product, the Tecno AO safety kit, features a cell phone headset that has been implanted with a wafer-sized protective device designed to combat the radiation emitted by cellular telephones. It is being brought to the market in the wake of growing concerns about the safety of cell phones. Some communities have begun to outlaw drivers' use of cell phones while behind the wheel, due to driver distraction and safety issues. In addition, some evidence indicates that low-level electromagnetic fields (EMF) associated with cell phones may induce a range of biological effects, including sleep disturbances, alterations of brain activity, and possibly cancer, according to TecnoZone International. Recent studies in the Journal of the American Medical Association have helped rekindle the debate about man-made EMF, and the British medical journal Lancet published conflicting articles on the topic in December. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has mandated a 3- to 5-year study on the issue, and the British government has recommended that the exposure of children to cell phones be limited. In addition to the all-in-one protective device and headset, TecnoZone International offers the nickel-sized radiation fighter separately. Company officials say the device is easily affixed, using self-adhesive tape, to a hand-held cell phone. According to TecnoZone, "the Tecno AO device counters potentially harmful radiation by creating a bio-compatible field."
