Ford Motor Co. will provide its own tire warranty on vehicles beginning with the 2001-model year. Under the expanded warranty, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars and light trucks in North America will be covered for tire repairs at 6,000 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers in the U.S. and its territories, Canada and Mexico. The move comes in the wake of the Bridgestone/Firestone tire recall late last summer, and breaks with a century of tradition, where historically only the tire manufacturer provided the warranty.
