Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the No. 2 luxury carmaker, has announced U.S. sales rose 13 percent in August. boosted by demand for the X5 sports utility vehicle. The Munich-based company sold 19,054 cars in August compared with 16,812 in the year-earlier period. Sales in the first eight months increased 20 percent to 120,763 vehicles. This marks the 35th consecutive month that BMW has surpassed its own monthly sales records, according to company officials. BMW said August sales of its SUVs increased to 3,536 units from 2,369 vehicles a year earlier.
