Toyota Motor Corp. has announced it's starting to make a profit from the Prius gasoline-electric hybrid cars, four years after introducing the low-pollution vehicle. Higher production volume of the Prius, released in Japan in 1997 and in the United States last year, along with technological gains are starting to overcome the added costs of its advanced battery and electrical parts, according to Hiroyuki Watanabe, Toyota's senior managing director for hybrid and fuel cell systems. Toyota has sold about 75,000 Priuses worldwide.
