Port-IT(TM), the in-vehicle telematics solution from Comworxx, Inc., has received PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) approval for use by the North American GSM alliance. "With this approval, Port-IT's hardware is certified as compatible with all GSM carriers in the United States, Canada and Mexico," said Mike Jonas, Comworxx president and CEO. "Millions of drivers will be able to make the most of the time spent in their vehicles - make phone calls, get information ranging from stock prices to driving directions - all within a safe, hands-on-the-wheel environment." The PTCRB represents North American GSM carriers and serves as the product certification standard for use on GSM networks. The approved modem, an essential hardware component of Port-IT's Telematic Communications Unit (TCU), passed the technical evaluation governing the release of new GSM products into the North American market. Comworxx, a Florida-based telematics company, earlier this month hosted the debut of Port-IT at the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Comworxx calls Port-IT "a complete in-vehicle communications solution with a global positioning system for safety and dynamic turn-by-turn navigation, hands-free information access (including news, custom stock quotes, traffic details and local weather forecasts) and hands-free telephone." According to Comworxx, when Port-IT is combined with a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), even more advanced services are available. Comworxx touts Port-IT as "the only comprehensive mobile technology solution for the aftermarket." According to Comworxxd, Port-IT can be installed in any vehicle at any time, and uses the same technology that currently powers more than 200,000 fleet customers worldwide. About Comworxx Comworxx Inc., headquartered in Sarasota, Fla., was initially founded as the North American operating partner for ComRoad AG, a worldwide firm specializing in mobile telematics with more than 200,000 subscribers internationally.
