Record May truck sales were offset by a decline in passenger car sales as total American Honda vehicle sales in May were down 4.6 percent to 106,459, according to figures released June 3 by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Total truck sales of 31,616 were up 15.4 percent, the second best truck month ever and a new May record. A new all-time record for the Acura MDX luxury SUV of 5,633, up 48 percent, led the increase, according to Honda. Honda Odyssey sales of 13,465 set a new May record and were up 15.8 percent. CR-V sales of 11,727 were up 10.2 percent. "American Honda’s May sales reflect the continued shift in consumer demand to light trucks," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "Sales in this area were limited only by availability. With the new Honda Pilot SUV now on sale, we expect to be able to meet more of the demand for light trucks." According to Honda, year-to-date, total truck sales of 153,146 are up 24.5 percent. Total sales of 484,745 are off 1.4 percent.
