Navigation Technologies, a provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation, Internet/wireless applications and business solutions announced Oct. 1 the appointment of Robert P. Denaro as vice president and general manager of its North American Business Solutions Unit. Denaro will leverage his extensive background in the positioning, location and mapping industry to expand Navigation Technologies' business in the GIS, Fleet and Enterprise markets. He will be based in the company's Chicago headquarters and will report to John MacLeod, executive vice president, North America and World Markets. "Navigation Technologies sees the importance of the GIS, Fleet and Enterprise markets, and the addition of Bob Denaro to our senior management team will help us bolster our presence in each of those segments," said MacLeod. "Bob has nearly three decades of experience and we will look to his strategic leadership and vast industry knowledge to expand and improve our operations. Bob will be a tremendous asset to our organization." Denaro joins Navigation Technologies from Rand McNally & Co., where he was senior vice president, general manager of Global Business Solutions, responsible for a broad range of business-to-business applications and consumer technology products and services, including the Internet and four diverse businesses. "I am excited to join Navigation Technologies at a time when navigation, location-based services and location-aware enterprise solutions are coming of age," said Denaro. "With our nationwide continental U.S. coverage and extensive integration tools, I look forward to help our enterprise customers realize fast returns on investment with spatial data." Prior to joining Rand McNally, Denaro was vice president and director of Motorola's Consumer Telematics Products, a division he launched after five years heading the company's GPS business. The unit introduced the first integration of wireless data cellular phones, GPS and real-time computation that included automotive standards. Earlier in his career, Denaro launched Trimble Navigation's Fleet Management and Vehicle Tracking Division and served as co-founder and vice president of TAU Corporation, an industrial software products company. He started his career in the United States Air Force, where he served for nine years, the last of which were in the Research and Development Global Positioning System Joint Program Office as a USAF Captain. Denaro holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences (Astronautics) from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the USAF Institute of Technology and a Master's degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
