Chrysler Group Reports January Sales

Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 129,222units in January 2003, a 12 percent decline compared to January 2002, whensales totaled 146,399 units.Despite the decline, the company says it posted sales gains among several keymodels from all three brands, and announced a new sales promotion thatbegins Feb. 4.According to the company, Dodge Ram pickup trucks had another solid month with 26,752 units sold, anincrease of three percent compared to January 2002. "We are pleased withthe success Ram is having in the marketplace," said Gary Dilts, senior vicepresident - sales. "Our new Dodge Ram Heavy Duty, named Truck of the Yearby Motor Trend magazine, posted another strong month based on its solidproduct attributes and capability."Within the Dodge car line, Neon set a January sales record with 9,904 unitssold, an increase of four percent compared to last January. Dodge Neon hasreported sales gains in 12 of the past 14 months, says the company.Leading the way for the Jeep® brand was the Jeep Wrangler with 3,836 sales,up 19 percent compared to last year.Sales of the Chrysler PT Cruiser were 9,443 units, up nine percent over theyear-earlier month. Chrysler Concorde posted sales of 3,242 units, up 21percent over last January.Dilts announced a new national sales event that starts February 4. Called"The Best Values in America," the program will emphasize the ChryslerGroup's "Great Products," the "Great Protection" of the company's 7/70powertrain warranty, and the "Great Deals" of applicable sales incentives.The campaign is open-ended and will be used across the Chrysler, Jeep andDodge brands.With the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica entering production this quarter, Chryslerdealers are excited about adding this all-new vehicle to the brand'sportfolio."We just returned from the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA)convention in San Francisco. We took our dealers through our marketingplans for 2003 and they are as optimistic and excited about this year as weare," added Dilts.
