AP reports that GM is saying that its OnStar in-vehicle communications system is making money for the first time since it was introduced seven years ago. "OnStar is in the black," GM CFO John Devine said this week at an analyst conference in New York, according to AP. OnStar has around two million subscribers in the US and GM says that most of its 54 US models will offer OnStar as either standard equipment or as part of a preferred equipment package. OnStar provides automatic crash notification to emergency services when airbags deploy and OnStar operators can also locate a stolen vehicle, remotely unlock the doors and provide a number of other services to users.
