Fleetguard Emission Solutions Announces the First Verified NOx Reduction Retrofit System

April 16, 2003

Fleetguard Emission Solutions has announced the availability of the first retrofit system that reduces emissions levels from diesel engines. According to the company, this product, named the Longview(TM) system, is the newest technology for reducing oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) coupled with particulate matter (PM) reduction capability. The California Air Resources Board has verified the effectiveness of the Longview system.Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls, Fleetguard Emission Solution's development partner, announced the verification Apr. 16. The air board verified that the Longview system reduces NOx, by 25 percent while simultaneously reducing PM by 85 percent. This system will be distributed throughout North America by Fleetguard Emission Solutions and is currently available for on-road use in a variety of applications."We are excited to be able to provide the first verified NOx aftertreatment product in the industry. This system fits well with the rest of our retrofit product portfolio, and we are already seeing enthusiasm for the Longview system from our customers. We look forward to announcing more retrofit products in the near future," said Amy Boerger, director of Retrofit Sales and Marketing for Fleetguard Emission Solutions. In addition to the Longview system, Fleetguard Emission Solutions retrofit product line also includes diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, stationary SCR systems, and Cleaire's Flash and Match(TM) and Flash and Catch(TM) products, according to the company. The comapny says the key to success in this project has been the nature of the partnership with Cleaire in accomplishing the development of Longview. Amy Boerger comments, "We have been working with Cleaire to make sure that this product meets the same reliability and durability standards that our other products do. And while we're excited about this announcement - it is only the first step of verification that will follow for other engines. We see the applicability of this product being extremely broad as we expand the verification."Cleaire began producing the Longview system in the fall of 2001 and has already installed the system throughout California on approximately 60 vehicles. Longview is currently in use on dump trucks, refuse trucks, transit buses, and long-haul trucks. This experience includes vehicles owned by Caltrans and the AC Transit and County Connection bus fleets in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls (www.cleaire.com) is a division of Cummins West, Inc. Cleaire develops and manufactures retrofit systems that reduce emissions from diesel engines. Headquarters are at 14775 Wicks Blvd., San Leandro, CA 94577.Fleetguard Emission Solutions says it is focused on meeting the growing requirements from customers and governmental regulatory agencies to reduce oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions from engine and power plant exhaust.
