Chrysler Group Sponsors Detroit's first Motor
City Cruisin' Event
Chrysler Group announced that it willsponsor the first-ever Motor City Cruisin’ event, an urban car strollthrough Detroit and its historical neighborhoods. Motor City Cruising,which also includes a weekend filled with various festivities, will be heldfrom July 19 - 20, 2003, at Historic Fort Wayne, located at West Jeffersonand Livernois, in Southwest Detroit."Chrysler Group has a tradition of making a difference in the communitiesin which we do business," said Frank Fountain, Chrysler Group’s senior vicepresident for Government Affairs. “As a member of the community, ChryslerGroup is pleased that it can support the development of new art andentertainment programs. These programs showcase the automobile and providebenefits to the citizens of Detroit.”On Saturday, Motor City Cruisin’ festivities include the Cruisin’ the “D”Road Rally, which is similar to the popular Woodward Dream Cruise, exceptthat vehicles drive through Detroit villages and not the suburbs. The routewill begin and end at Historic Fort Wayne, and pass through Mexican Town,Corktown, Palmer Woods, Indian Village and the historic Boston/EdisonDistrict.Personalities such as actress Suzanne Douglass of “The Parenthood,” actressShari Headley of “Coming to America,” former Detroit Pistons player RickMahorn, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, and Motor City legendaryboxing trainer Emmanuel Steward are expected to participate in the Cruisin’the “D” Road Rally.“Motor City Cruisin’ was created to showcase areas of the city of Detroit,and to give Detroiters the venue to demonstrate our appreciation for theautomobile,” said Alan Miller, founder of Motor City Cruisin’ and presidentof the A. Miller Group, a local marketing and consulting company thatfocuses on diversity initiatives.Other entertainment will include a performance by Luther “Badman” KeithBlues and a concert featuring Dawnn Lewis from “A Different World.”Sunday’s activities include health screenings and a community wedding, bothat Historic Fort Wayne. Free blood-pressure screenings will be conducted,and couples who desire to be married at the first Motor City Cruisin’ canexchange vows from 2 p.m. -- 4 p.m. at “My Motor City Cruisin’ Wedding.
