According to the Detroit Press, thieves broke into Don Massey Cadillac in Lone Tree, Colo., last November and stole seven Escalade sport-utility vehicles. The $55,000 SUV is the vehicle most likely to be targeted by thieves, according to a report released by a research group funded by auto insurers. The report, which reviewed theft claims for 2000-02 model-year vehicles, found that five of the top 10 vehicles stolen or broken into are SUVs. The Dodge Stratus, ranked second on the list, was the four-door car most likely to be targeted, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The organization compared insurance claims with the overall number of insured vehicles to get a percentage of likelihood that a vehicle will be targeted. The Escalade averaged 10.3 claims per 1,000 insured vehicles, and the Dodge Stratus, 8.7 claims. The average number of claims for all vehicles was 2.6.
