BERLIN — Volkswagen AG said Wednesday it is recalling 870,000 vehicles worldwide to check front axles for a potential problem, the Associated Press reports. Japan’s Isuzu Motors Ltd. is recalling approximately 73,000 Trooper SUVs because their accelerators can get stuck for several seconds after the gas pedal is released, NHTSA regulators said Wednesday. The Volkswagen recall affects Passat models built between 1996 and 1999 as well as Audi A4 and A8 models built between 1994 and 1999 and Audi A6 models built between 1997 and 1999. Troopers between model years 1992-1995 are affected by the Isuzu recall. Volkswagen said the recall is to examine rubber boots on the front axles, which can get damaged and in some cases cause failure of the bearing arm. The company expects that about 1 percent of the vehicles affected by the recall will need repairs, a spokesman said.
