Ford Motor Co. said on January 27 it will recall 792,000 pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles because of a fire risk, according to a Reuters report. The risk stems from overheating of the speed control switch. The voluntary recall is for the 2000 model-year F-150 pickup trucks, Expedition and Navigator SUVs; and 2001 model-year F-Series Super Crew pickup trucks equipped with speed control. The recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received 39 reports of fires and launched an investigation in November. American Honda Motor Co. said on Tuesday it will recall 486,000 Hondas and Acuras to repair ignition switches, according to a Reuters report. Included in the recall are certain 1999 to 2002 Honda Accord models and all 1997 to 2001 Prelude models as well as some 1999 to 2000 Acura TL sedans. Honda set the recall because some ignition-switch interlock levers may be improperly dimensioned, the company said, possibly allowing a driver to switch the ignition off and remove the key without putting the shift lever in the "Park" position. The voluntary recall involves automatic transmission equipped vehicles -- manual transmission equipped vehicles are not affected.
