BEDMINSTER, N.J., -- Verizon Wireless announced Monday it is offering a turn-key fleet management system targeted to small and medium businesses within the transportation, logistics, construction, utilities, and delivery industries. Verizon said the system, Fleet Administrator, “will provide small to medium businesses with vital vehicle location information needed to improve their operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and grow their business through better utilization of their mobile resources.” Fleet Administrator is provided through installation of a wireless device in fleet vehicles and a software application that is installed on the office computer. Developed by Navman Wireless, Fleet Administrator requires no customization or integration, Verizon said. Verizon will provide in-vehicle device installation, the software application, customer training and technical support. Fleet managers can use the system to map vehicle locations, analyze a vehicle's activity including stops, mileage and idleness, define a driver's territory and create reports. "We are excited … to help make small and medium businesses more efficient and effective by reducing employee downtime, achieving fuel savings, improving route planning and increasing customer responsiveness and satisfaction," said Bill Stone, vice president of marketing for Verizon Wireless, in a statement. Verizon says the system is ideal for customers in vertical markets with delivery fleets, including the transportation, utility, courier/delivery, field services, security, construction and distribution industries. Verizon Wireless Fleet Administrator costs $49.99 per month. Devices range from $549.99 to $599.99, which includes full in-vehicle installation. Other fees may apply.
