The 2006-model Dodge Ram 1500 light duty pickup will be the first pickup to offer fuel-saving multi-deactivation technology. Chrysler says the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) will boost fuel economy by up to 20 percent. MDS seamlessly alternates between fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V-8 mode when the driver demands more power. The switch from eight to four cylinders occurs in 40 milliseconds. MDS will be standard on 2006 Ram 1500s equipped with the 5.7-liter, 345-hp, 375-lb-ft Hemi V8.
