Ford will start taking orders in July for the Mercury Mariner hybrid, a Ford spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Ford will begin pre-selling the Mariner hybrid on July 11 to gauge demand before production begins. Prices will be set at that time. The first hybrid Mariners will be built in October. The order taking process will give the automaker a better sense of what volume to produce, the company said.
Ford, which has also sold hybrid Ford Escape SUVs since late 2004, also plans hybrid versions of its new Fusion and Milan sedans in 2008.
