A petition has been filed to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to reconsider the new rules on truck drivers' hours of service, according to FleetOwner.com. The advocacy group Public Citizen was reacting to the new HOS put in place by the FMCSA Aug. 19. The biggest change in the new rules affects short-haul drivers not required to hold a CDL, such as landscapers and delivery drivers. The rule says that they can extend their workday by two hours twice a week, with no more than 11 hours driving at one time. The petition claims that the FMCSA fails to regard highway safety as its primary initiative, the report said. A legal challenge must be filed with the court within 60 days of the date the new rules were issued.
