During a surprise inspection, the Murrieta Police Department and the California Highway Patrol took one-third of the 77 trucks inspected off the roads immediately, labeling them as dangerous, the North County (Calif.) Times reported. Additionally, 40 drivers were issued citations for safety violations. Only 13 of the vehicles pulled over were in compliance with state regulations. Twenty-four of the trucks were considered to be in such bad shape, that they had to be taken out of service until mechanics could repair the vehicles, bringing them back to compliance, the Times reported. Some of the violations included cracked frames, unstable suspension systems and malfunctioning brakes. A cement truck was found to have only three of its eight brakes properly adjusted.
