CSI Wireless Will Sell Telematics Business

After recording a net loss of $12 million for 2005, CSI Wireless will sell its telematics business, CBC News reports.The telematics business had been the Canadian-based company’s weakest performer. While generating only 5 percent of its business, the telematics unit incurred 40 percent of the company’s net loss. Stephen Verhoeff, president and chief executive, said CSI will focus on wireless desktop phones and global positioning products for agriculture and marine applications. CSI markets Asset-Link, hardware used as part of GPS satellite tracking systems serving fleet management markets. According to the company’s Web site, Asset-Link™ uses celluar networks to provide asset position reporting, asset status, remote unlock, shutdown and general health messages.The company is currently in discussions with potential buyers, according to the CBC News report.
