Saab Debuts Aero X Concept Car

March 2, 2006

Inspired by aviation and Scandinavian brand heritage, Saab unveiled its latest concept, the Aero X Sport Coupe, at the GM Premiere Night of the Geneva Motor Show. The Aero X concept car is a high-performance all-wheel drive sports machine with a 2.8 liter V6 turbo engine that runs on pure bio-ethanol, which will help lower CO2 emissions. It also features a cockpit canopy that is similar to the jet aircraft that Saab makes, that will enable the driver 180-degree vision and makes it easy for them to get in and out of the low-slung cabin. The Aero X's cockpit also adds a new dimension to its Scandinavian interior design, by eliminating conventional dials and buttons, and instead, uses techniques derived from Swedish glass and precision-instrument making to display trip data three-dimensionally on acrylic "clear zones". Saab spokespeople have said that computer simulations anticipate that the Aero X can go from 62 mph in only 4.9 seconds, and reach a top speed limited to 155 mph.
