August 3, 2006

The National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition released an updated list of 2007 model cars and trucks that can run on either gasoline or E85 ethanol with 12 new additions, bringing the total to 31, according to Automotive News. The new flexible-fuel vehicles are:
  • From DaimlerChrysler AG: 4.7-liter models of the Chrysler Aspen, Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Dakota; 2.5-liter Mercedes-Benz C230.
  • From General Motors: 3.9-liter models of the Chevrolet Express and Uplander, GMC Savana, Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay and Buick Terraza.
  • From Nissan: The 5.6-liter Armada.A full list of E85-capable vehicles for 2007 and previous model years is available at http://www.e85fuel.com/e85101/flexfuelvehicles.php.Sales of flexible-fuel vehicles have risen from 3 million in 2004 to about 6 million today, according to the coalition. Daimler Chrysler, GM and Ford Motor Co. said last month that by 2010 they would double production of vehicles capable of running on renewable fuels, Automotive News reports. In light of the increasing demand for flex-fuel vehicles, market researcher Harris Interactive’s AutoTECHCAST study shows that two-thirds of consumers are familiar with flexible-fuel vehicles, and more than 50 percent are interested in purchasing such a vehicle. Consumers cite reducing dependency on oil and benefiting the environment as key reasons for the consideration. More information about the study can be found at www.harrisinteractive.com/services/autotechcasteurope.asp.
