The National Arbor Day Foundation today announced its partnership with Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc. (TMHU), which offers the world's cleanest internal combustion lift truck and the first and only lift truck to surpass 2007 Federal EPA emissions standards and meet California's stringent 2010 emission standards.(1) Through this partnership, Toyota will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to have a tree planted in a national forest damaged by fire or other natural causes for every 8-Series lift truck delivered in 2007. "The National Arbor Day Foundation is pleased to partner with Toyota Material Handling on this endeavor," said John Rosenow, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Toyota Material Handling has demonstrated a commitment to preserving and improving our environment - clearly, a philosophy that The National Arbor Day Foundation shares, appreciates and respects." Toyota is the world's largest supplier of lift trucks, which are used in daily applications ranging from retail to lumberyards. TMHU recently unveiled its new 8-Series lift truck, which produces 70 percent less smog-forming emissions than the 2007 standard. In developing the 8-Series, TMHU also took a global leadership role by exceeding both state and federal emissions regulations and by integrating elements of sustainable design such as increasing the amount of recyclable parts used in the manufacturing process. "Toyota is committed to environmental responsibility, and it's a role we take very seriously," said Shankar Basu, president and CEO of TMHU. "Beyond pushing the bounds of product innovation, one of Toyota's goals is to support environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial initiatives contributing to a cleaner environment - The National Arbor Day Foundation is helping us achieve this."
