Donlen, a provider of innovative fleet management systems, teamed with TPC Management Company to coordinate 45 auto auctions across the country and raise $150,000 for the “One Step at a Time” program, a summer camp experience for children with cancer and leukemia. The amount was the highest yet in the annual effort to benefit Children’s Oncology Services, topping last year’s mark by more than 47 percent and raising nearly six times the total of the 2004 launch campaign. Children’s Oncology Services of Illinois, Inc., a not-for-profit charitable organization, conducts the “One Step at a Time” program to benefit children 7-18 diagnosed with leukemia or other forms of cancer. The unique two-week camps give afflicted children a rare bonding experience and a safe, supportive environment to enjoy some of the everyday joys of childhood. Their Web site is onestepcamp.org. Many auctions began their own fundraising efforts early last fall and continued through March, holding raffles and auctions of sports memorabilia and other donated merchandise in conjunction with Donlen vehicle sales. Some dealers also donated money directly.
