Navistar Unveils Hybrid Truck

October 15, 2008

A Navistar press release reported the unveiling of an additional hybridtruck configuration – the International DuraStar Hybrid tractor –which targets general freight haulers and food/beverage distributors.

Like the other trucks in the International DuraStar Hybrid line, this dieselelectric hybrid Class 7 tractor can provide fuel savings of 20-25 percent on astandard in-city pickup and delivery applications. This savings is theequivalent of paying almost a dollar less per gallon at the pump.

International DuraStar Hybrid trucks employ a parallel-type, diesel-electrichybrid architecture that is supplied by Eaton Corporation. The hybrid-electricsystem recovers energy during braking, and can add power back into thedriveline during start and acceleration, making it more efficient in citydriving.

The hybrid also reduces the amount of emissions released into the air.Overall, the DuraStar Hybrid emits up to 33 percent less hydrocarbon emissionsand 35 percent less nitrogen oxide emissions versus standard diesel trucks.
