Automotive Lease Guide’s (ALG) latest perceived quality survey found that Ford and Hyundai made the most improvement in terms of perceived quality, among all automakers, during the last five years.

ALG’s Perceived Quality study is a semi-annual survey of perception of automotive brands, surveying more than 3,000 U.S. consumers to gauge perception of mainstream and luxury brands. According to the survey, perception of Ford’s quality has improved nearly 37% since 2008, and Hyundai’s perception of quality has increased 25% during that same period.

The top automakers are Honda, at a perceived quality score of 81.3, with Toyota in second place and Subaru in third. Other brands that showed a significant quality improvement include Fiat, Scion, Dodge and Kia, according to ALG.

Among the luxury brands, Lexus ranks No. 1 (for the second year), at 85.4, and Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche make up the remaining three out of the top four.
