Drivers from Idaho, Washington, D.C., and New York have been named the rudest drivers, according to a survey by Insure.com, a consumer insurance information website.

North Dakota, Maine and New Hampshire were ranked as the states with the least rude drivers.

Based on Insure.com’s survey of 2,000 licensed drivers, here are the top 10 states with the rudest drivers:

1. Idaho
2. Washington, D.C.
3. New York
4. Wyoming
5. Massachusetts
6. Delaware (tie)
6. Vermont (tie)
8. New Jersey
9. Nevada
10. Utah

Idaho has been named as the top state with the rudest drivers because of the mix between slow drivers and aggressive drivers, says the survey. According to one survey respondent, “Idahoans feel just fine taking their time, driving 5 to 10 miles under the limit.” This leads to tension when there are also fast and aggressive drivers on the roadways.

When asked what makes them most mad about other drivers, respondents said: talking on a cellphone while driving (47%), tailgating (37%), not signaling turns (35%), weaving in and out of lanes (28%) and driving too fast (26%).

“Casting aspersions toward other drivers is a long-standing tradition,” said Amy Danise, editorial director for Insure.com. “We wanted to know not only where the rude drivers come from, but also who thinks they’re rude.”

According to the survey, California drivers are the biggest haters: they don’t like drivers from Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, New York, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Vermont. Texas came in second for the biggest hater of drivers from other states, including California, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
