Wheels Inc. and GM's OnStar Business Solutions announced they are working together to enable their mutual fleet customers to access a wide array of vehicle information utilizing the OnStar embedded hardware available across most of automaker’s vehicle lineup.

OnStar embedded hardware is available on most GM Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brand vehicles in fleets managed by Wheels, according to the fleet management company. This platform will offer critical insights and opportunities to improve driver behavior and vehicle utilization in areas such as safety, sustainability, productivity, and more.

“Increasingly, companies are demanding more capable and efficient ways to manage their fleets,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, General Motors Fleet. “Working with Wheels, our mutual customers will be able to access real-time information from API Services for fleet vehicles on the road and translate that data into customized and manageable tools.”

Wheels will integrate OnStar Business Solutions’ API connected vehicle data from OnStar equipped vehicles directly into Wheels’ FleetView and DriverView online user portals. This will include a range of telemetry (including GPS, speed, true odometer) and driving behavior data (including hard braking, hard acceleration and driver seat belt usage) as well as key vehicle diagnostics (such as engine oil life and diagnostic trouble codes), Wheels said in an announcement.

The information will be presented through interactive visuals, and alongside existing fleet data, giving customers additional tools to make the best decisions to manage their fleet.

“As the world becomes more connected, Wheels is committed to helping fleets take advantage of the opportunities this presents,” said Ahsan Rahim, COO, Wheels Inc. “Our clients can benefit from accessing this data to improve their safety, sustainability, productivity, and overall performance. Joint efforts such as this help ensure we are ready to support the evolution of fleet and mobility.”
