Motorola, Inc. and TSS Wireless, Inc. demonstrated October 29th a mobile fleet management application on Motorola's application upgradeable handsets at the DCI Enterprise Wireless Summit in Boston.

This client application, running on Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled handsets from Motorola, allows transportation professionals to receive new passenger pick-up information from a back-end dispatch system. It also allows the mobile user--whether limo, shuttle, taxi, or other transportation service driver-- to confirm the passenger pick-up, drop-off, or no-show status, with the time stamp and payment information, back to the dispatch system.

"Multiple communications handsets are ideal for communication-intensive industries such as transportation services because they allow instant communications with one or many individuals at the touch of a button," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president of Motorola and director of U.S. market operations for the company's iDEN(R) Subscriber Group. "This application is another example of how these handsets can improve productivity for mobile workforces."

"We are pleased to work with Motorola to showcase this application, which allows transportation professionals and companies to transmit important information in real time," said Bo Safrang, cofounder, president and CEO of TSS Wireless. "By equipping drivers with these Java technology-enabled handsets, transportation service companies can manage their fleets without costly proprietary wireless terminals."

The application is expected to be available for download later in 2001 at www.motorola.com/idenupdate.
