State of the Industry & Best Practices for Fleet Managers in a Supply-Constrained Environment

Q. What are the best practices for fleet managers to follow to acquire new vehicles in a supply constrained environment?

A. Here are a few best practices that we recommend:

  • Have a plan - Be able to order as soon as the ordering banks open.
  • A diverse acquisition strategy is needed. Consider sourcing vehicles from multiple OEMs, including options that include used vehicles, existing dealer stock, and bailment pools.
  • Do what you can to preserve older vehicles in your fleet, knowing that you may not be able to replace them as quickly as you have in the past. Preventative maintenance is key.
  • Get creative with vehicle types and upfitting options. For example, consider a large SUV working in place of a pickup truck for certain vehicles within your fleet. There are also some great upfitting options available that can convert pickup trucks to be more cross-functional and serve as a van if needed.
