A new Honda to be made at the company's East Liberty, Ohio plant will be called the Element and will go on sale in December, the automaker announced March 27. The Element combines features of a pickup truck and sport utility vehicle and will cost between $16,000 and $21,000. The name of the vehicle, previously known as Model X, was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. Honda spokesman Ron Lietzke said the plant likely will have to hire "a few" more workers when production of the Element begins, but he did not know the exact number of jobs that will be needed to supplement the plant's 2,550-employee work force, according to an Associated Press report. All 50,000 Elements to be made for sale in 2003 will come from the East Liberty plant, about 40 miles northwest of Columbus, Ohio in Logan County. The plant produces the Civic Sedan, Civic Coupe and GX natural gas vehicles. Last year it rolled out 236,029 vehicles.
