Nissan Motor Co. is betting that two new, high performance models will bolster flagging sales at its underachieving luxury brand this year, according to a Detroit Free Press story by Lawrence Ulrich. Infiniti used the New York International Auto Show to unveil the G35 coupe, a 2-door take on its G35 sedan, and the M45, an over-$40,000 sedan with the 4.5-liter, 340-horsepower engine from its top-of-the-line Q45. The rear-wheel-drive 2003 models go on sale in November. Nissan must garner attention from affuluent consumers who reflexively buy BMWs and Mercedes. Its plan is to offer the kind of performance BMW and Mercedes buyers demand but at a more affordable price, according to the Free Press.
