Hyundai agreed to pay about $210 million while Kia agree to pay $185 million to cover additional fuel costs. Both automakers restated their mileage numbers in November of 2012. The adjustment affected approximately 300,000 2011-13 model year Kia vehicles.
The final settlement numbers will be determined by the number of customers who choose a lump-sum payment or a lifetime reimbursement program based on actual fuel expenses.
Commercial Hyundai vehicles won't be included in the settlement formula. Details will be announced at a later time, Hyundai Corporate Sales Manager Richard Pipenhagen told Automotive Fleet.
