Volkswagen is developing a 10-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to boost fuel efficiency in future models, the automaker's development boss said this week.

While speaking at a presentation on future drivetrains at the annual Vienna motor symposium in Austria, Hans-Jakob Neusser said the 10-speed gearbox could be used in a wide range of models, reports Autocar.

The 10-speed transmission would help the automaker meet its goal to boost fuel efficiency by 15 percent by 2020.
