Toyota is recalling 690,000 2005-2011 model-year Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 trucks because of the risk of a fuel tank leak, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The recall covers trucks manufactured from Sept. 14, 2009, to Oct. 11, 2010. In these vehicles, one of the leaf springs may fracture because of stress or corrosion. While the truck is driven, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. If the fuel tank is punctured, the resulting leak poses a fire risk, NHTSA said.

Toyota is still developing a remedy for the problem, but the recall is expected to begin Nov. 28, NHTSA said. Truck owners can reach Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
