Hyundai Motor has been granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to restrict text messaging while the car is in motion, reports Business Korea.

The patent will allow Hyundai to implement technology that can automatically block specific functions such as text messaging while driving, the automaker announced June 23. The technology can selectively allow calls and text messaging.

The automaker is preparing patent applications for related technologies.
