First released in 1968, and one year later throughout Europe, the Toyota Hilux has been a presence in the global pick-up market for nearly 50 years.
To date, the pick-up has recorded cumulative global sales of over 16 million units. In Europe, approximately 36,000 Hilux vehicles were sold in 2014, representing a 23.5-percent share of the segment, according to the automaker.
The new, 8th generation Hilux builds on its reputation, redefining toughness for business users with a new and stronger ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure, enhanced 4×4 capabilities, and an improved towing capacity, according to the automaker.
Fulfilling user requirements for both a durable business workhorse and a stylish, comfortable leisure 4×4, the new Hilux has been designed to offer all its customers significant improvements in six key areas, according to the automaker:
- Design – Workhorse toughness and rugged durability combined with new-found levels of refinement and the looks even business users can be proud of.
- Comfort – A more spacious and comfortable interior combining SUV practicality and functionality with passenger car-like cabin NVH levels.
- Safety – A high strength, impact-absorbing body structure and comprehensive brake control systems including ABS, EBD, VSC and Trailer Sway Control (TSC).
- QDR – A new, tougher ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure and Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) systems raise 4×4 capabilities to match Land Cruiser levels.
- Commercial Vehicle Capabilities – A larger, stronger and more practical cargo deck and an improved, 3.2 ton towing capacity.
- Total Cost of Ownership – New 2.4 and 2.8 D-4D engines with class-leading fuel economy.
